avidmoviewatcher1221 REC 2 reaches the same heights - maybe even higher - of terrifying as the original. I thought I knew what to expect. But I should've known better. REC was an unexpected, scary-as-hell, yet exhilarating roller- coaster ride, from start to finish. And that REC 2 was just as unexpected - and it was scared the ever-living crap out of me. I couldn't take my eyes away from the screen. I wanted to know what happened after the unsettling ending of REC. So I couldn't keep my eyes closed, even if it could potentially cause a heart attack of some sort in the process of watching. And it was all worth it, from start to finish, then, suddenly, I was taken over by the same question when I finished the original: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!
view_and_review One of the cardinal sins committed by most sequels is materializing a reasons for a sequel out of thin air. Too many sequels have made this blunder which usually taints the entire movie. To avoid this, many horror movies will end on a cliffhanger or and open ended conclusion. The first "REC" didn't end completely open but nothing was resolved either. If you saw "REC" then you're already aware of the contained zombie outbreak. In "REC 2" four SWAT members and a {ahem} doctor go into the building to acquire a blood sample from the original carrier of the contagion. They need this to potentially make and antidote. This time around the movie looks a little more staged and a little less natural. The characters seem more like characters than simple bystanders that have been sucked into a bleep storm.Just to erase all doubt that this is a movie, they threw in three cliché, knuckle-headed, rebellious, let-me-see-what's-going-on teens. After all, what's a good horror movie without your dumb teenagers? Another damper was the religious route the story took. I think they did that for effect or just to be different. In any case it didn't enhance the movie anymore."REC 2" was good for a sequel and if we were to judge it based upon other sequels it'd be a masterpiece. All in all it was worth watching.
CinemaClown Taking place immediately after the events of the first film, REC 2 may lack the sublime quality of its remarkable predecessor & looks more like a rehash of REC than anything else, it nonetheless manages to be very effective in few sequences, does a fine job in momentarily recreating the nerve-wracking tension of the original and even though it's by no means a worthy sequel, it still fares much better than its cash-grab counterparts.Set in the very quarantined location where the events of previous film unfolded, REC 2 concerns a medical officer & 3-men SWAT team who enter the ill-fated apartment building to get a blood sample from a possessed girl in order to develop an antidote for the deadly virus that's responsible for the demonic outbreak amongst the residents. Managing to control the situation to some extent, the team carries on with the mission until they encounter an unexpected survivor.Directed by Jaume Balagueró & Paco Plaza, the film doesn't waste any time in setting its premise from scratch & simply jumps into the chaos that surrounded the first film. The horror elements are executed in almost the same manner which makes the story less fresh & more predictable and even the use of camera, different point of views & staged angles take away a lot from the experience. It also suffers from trying too hard as some moments comes off as unintentionally hilarious. The entire cast delivers a performance that's more or less of a letdown only and the film as a whole pretty much fails to genuinely capture the terror, carnage & visceral horror of its predecessor. On an overall scale, REC 2 has a lot going on & tries too hard to repeat the magic of the original, which unfortunately never happens. While few will find something to admire & enjoy about it, for me it's a highly inferior sequel but by no means is it a bad one. Worth a shot.
Heckt Chart Come back to the location of the first movie, add some characters and mix them with the previous history. The result: An amazing history full of horror, zombies, and gore actions. The addition of new characters and the interaction with the first ones makes this movie a good history and a new point of view about the mysterious plague in Barcelona. The death of the SWAT team show us that a lot of bullets and fire guns aren't enough to finish with the horror.I think that REC 2 is better than the first movie, the history is like a ride in a horror roallercoaster.
